Can I work legally in the UK when married to French citizen?

I just got married to a french citizen. do i still need to apply for a residence card (is it obligatory?) or can I just work normally in the uk?

Generally just because you marry someone doesn't change your status without doing additional paperwork. You'll need to do some research on that.
