Neoconservatives, how can you have it both ways? Shouldn't mercy be extended to those convicted of murder and there not be a death sentance?

Jesus, (R) from Jerusalem forgave Saul of Tarsus, a man who was a serial killer.

Why not follow the example of Jesus (R)

David Slayed Goliath and was a hero for it, the walls of Jericho etc.

There are plenty of justified homicides in the bible but unjust murder is punishable.

First of all, Jesus was not from Jerusalem . He was from Nazareth.
Second of all, I am a conservative and a Catholic and a Republican, not a "Neocon".
Third of all, I don't believe in the death penalty and neither does anyone else that I know who is a Catholic conservative.
Jesus was all merciful and forgiving and He bids all of us who believe in Him to do the same.

I know some Democrats that have no problem with the death penalty if it applies to people they don't like politically. So nothing is absolutely one way and we should not go around making general accusations.

By the way what does that (R) mean?

Paul, who never saw Jesus admitted that the resurrection was his gospel (II Timothy 2:8). Chistianity is not a teaching of Jesus but of Paul.
So how can Jesus forgave Paul, when he existed long after Jesus had already left this world. The forgiveness being trumpeted by the Catholic church were the works of the pagans in Rome, who destroyed the truth. Only God forgives.

Forgiveness is not the responsibility of our government.... enforcing the laws, justice, and punishment of criminals is....

You can individually forgive a person who murdered someone close to you... that does not mean that the criminal justice system should not do the job it was created to do

A sane society eliminates its maniacal murderers. These worst of the worst criminals are not able to be rehabilitated and have no positive contribution to society except through their death, which is addition by subtraction. We are better off as a society with their elimination.

Jesus, in His wisdom knew that all can be forgiven of their sins by confessing them.

On the other hand, in the real world, the DP has been and will be a deterrent to violent crime.

BTW, it's not a "NeoCon" thing, the DP has been around a long time, through all different political parties.

Jesus forgave Saul because he repented and changed his ways. How many muderers can say the same. Besides, if it weren't for a death penalty, we wouldn't have a savior.

I don't think Saul of Tarsus (Paul the Apostle!) was a serial killer!

I am against the death penalty but this question illustrates the confusion some have distinguishing between the government and the individual. Jesus talk us how to treat each other. His lessons were never to government or to advise on governments relationship with man but rather mans relationship with man......

I guess the same question can be asked for those that are for baby killing. It's OK to kill an innocent child but not a murderer. That's what is so confusing to me about libturds....
