How do you decide which team to pull for? Is it geographical? Does every one in your family pull for the same team?
Also, is there a correlation between the football team you pull for and the baseball or hockey team? For example, are most Yankees fans also Giants fans or Jets fans, or there is no relation?

I think you are in two different groups. The Jets, Mets, Islanders. And the Yankees, Giants, Rangers.

Interesting question. In my family we have Yankees fans, one Mets fan, and Phillies fans. In football most of us are Eagles fans with only two that are Giant fans, with no Jets fans. Hockey, most are Flyers fans with one Rangers fan. Everyone hates the Islanders. There are no basketball fans at all in our family. The NBA is a non factor.
Of course we don't live in NYC. South Jersey near Philadelphia and a bunch in Florida.

Depending on the outcome of a lawsuit. The Jets are insisting all New York residents become Jets fans-Or be subject to a lawsuit. So no more picking between Giants/Jets.

I'm a NYY fan because I went to my first pro game (a double header) at the OLD Yankee Stadium and Roy White hit home runs from both sides of the plate. The granduer and the atmosphere of the place was like no other from that moment going forward I was hooked.
I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan, because when I was 8 my cousins moved in with us, they were from Texas and were Dallas fans and I became a Dallas fan because of him.

When you live there you grown an attachmen to the team on TV or you met a member of the club. That is a lot of it. An parents may have been fans. Get to go to some of the games.
