What do you think of a law that would require you + passengers to wear helmets, in addition to seat belts? Would you risk a ticket to keep your hair perfect, or just obey it?

What about a fire suit too? How far can the state go in forcing us to conform our conduct in the name of safety?

Why is the person who asked this question saying "cars drivers required to wear a seat belt but motorcycle drivers not required to wear a helmet"? There seem to be a double standard with car laws vs motorcycle laws. The person is saying that car drivers are required to wear seat belts yet motorcycle drivers are not required to wear a helmet even though it's just as illegal to be on a motorcycle without a helmet than a car without a seat belt. Why the double standard? I can see telling the truth about both laws or not saying anything, but I can't understand why the person's telling the truth about one and not for the other type of law. Thanks. P.S. If you have not caught on to my humor yet, the answer is: There is no double standard. Motorcycle drivers are required to wear helmets.

I would have found the idea of wearing a helmet in a car laughable, except that some idiot in government and some stupid special interest group might get together and pass such a law. What else could you do but obey it, unless you have endless pockets for the tickets. The government has you by the scruff of the neck and they can shake anything they want out of you.

I still don't wear those safety belts and I'd NEVER wear a helmet. I do wear one cause I ride a scooter but that's for my protection and I could care less about some dip sh*t law. I've seen way too many people get killed because of seat belts. One woman just slammed on her breaks and the whiplash popped her head off thanks to the shoulder belts. She didn't even hit anything.

Here's what I don't understand. If WE are made to wear seat belts (and possibly the helmets of which you speak) why aren't car makers ALL required legally to make safer cars? Some of those little things running around on the road are so fraglie and unsafe. We should wear helmets so car makers don't have to make safe cars? Makes no sense to me!

Just obey it.

I obey bike helmet laws. IN all fairness if the road conditions got so bad that a helmet law had to be enacted because police were incapable of enforcing any other traffic laws I would wear the helmet. What is more important good hair or cognition?

I have been in over 10 accidentces not one did i wear my seat belt and only got scraps and bruises nothing to sever minus a trashed truck!

over all i have worn my seat belt because of the guy law. but a helmet in a care that's a little over kill and i wouldn't do it

I wouldn't obey it. Legislators have gone too far in enacting new laws, and are just piling up new legal code sky high.

At some point, the People need to tell them this is enough.

Unfortunately, if our elected representatives were dopey enough to enact such a law, we would be forced to obey it or pay the consequence. Driving privileges are exactly that, privileges, not rights.

I like it. It's the logical extension of the emerging nanny state. Hey... if it saves even one life a year, isn't it worth losing the "do"? (Not mention seat belts on school buses)

Safety v. convenience after all....
