Why do you want to take more? Have you seen a therapist? I agree that your doctor should moniter you and not just leave it up to you. Would he do that if you had cancer? Probably not.

Sorry but I'm not with all those lambasting your doctor. I have been on Prozac for a long time without any bad effects, my psychiatrist listens to what I say and she knows me well by now, so she may say the exact same thing, because she knows that I know my body and depression pretty darn well after all this time and that I won't abuse the meds. Since I have been on this med for a long time I am sensitive to my mood and know pretty much when I am okay or if it needs to be increased for a while.

If 40mg works for you, there`s no need to increase dosage. You must tell your doctor how you feel. In my opinion, I would look for another doctor and get a second opinion. Any doctor tells you it`s your choice, BEWARE.
Best of luck !!!

How are you feeling? If I were you, I'd come off it as soon as possible (gradually, of course). Your doctor says do what you want.. don't they have any advice for you or anything? I might find another doc also.

If the doctor says that, I would find another doctor. The one you have apparently doesn't care enough to monitor your progress, or lack of same.
