I got to see enough of them living next to Philly. Despite the rivalry, I think very highly of Mario Lemieux. He's a helluva player and an even greater man.

I live in Pittsburgh, but uh... you make it sound so good. Haha. Pittsburgher's are fortunate and unfortunate when it comes to great players we have watched. It was pretty painful sucking for many years to attain great players. Not to mention the dark cloud that hovered over the city and the team because of possible relocation and bankruptcy.

Jaromir Jagr said he was "dying alive" in Pittsburgh. LOL. That kind of ruins the party. Still, Pittsburgh was lucky to see him and Lemieux play together and win back-to-back Cups. Jagr's an ideal example of taking the good with the bad though...

I feel bad sometimes about everything that has happened with Mario Lemieux. He's given so much to Pittsburgh, especially his time, energy, and money. Our politicians have been idiots to him. Former Penguins management were idiots and he sorted out their messes personally. He eventually paid off all the debts the Penguins organization owed. I don't think Pittsburgh can ever repay him for that.

I guess loyalty is what Penguins fans in Pittsburgh pay to Lemieux. When you go to a game in the Igloo, there's still a significant number of Lemieux jerseys among the crowds. :)

Getting Sidney Crosby in the draft lottery felt surreal. Actually, it still feels surreal. I have thought recently that even if the Penguins don't win the Cup while Sid is playing for them (which I find improbable, by the way) at least we'll have gotten to watch him do amazing things.

I was born in Montreal...................I had M. Richard, Lach, Durnan, Blake, Beliveau, Plante, H. Richard, Harvey, Johnson, and the list went on!

The Pittsburgh Penguins seriously pale when compared to the likes of the original 6, especially Montreal.

Erica....when I was born, the Canadiens were the laughingstock of the NHL. The first game I was at (I was a baby), the New York Americans beat the Canadiens in Montreal. A couple of years later they started winning games but my dad and uncles were convinced it would be short-lived. By 1950....the NHL was Montreal and Detroit with Toronto perennially 3rd. In 1954 the Wirtz's bought the Hawks and from 1954 through 1967, there were 4 dominant teams and then there was Boston and the Rangers. A bad trade by Tommy Ivan and some punk from Parry Sound turned the Bruins fortunes around.

But yes, growing up in Montreal and watching the Canadiens win Cup after Cup never got old. And.............as electrifying as Mario Lemieux was............I'll take Maurice Richard any day!

Chris.....I'm 66

Yeah within the last 20 years we have seen lots of great players. Oh and you people realize only one team wins the Stanley Cup each year? Do you realize how many times the Red Wings have hogged it up in those 15 years since we last won lol. Us Pens fans have seen some great talent in my life though. Got to grow up watching Mario, Straka, Jagr, Kevin Stevens, Ulf. I remember Neved's game winner against the Caps in that playoff game. I just wish Lang was still calling the TV games as well. Yeah we last won the Cup in '92 and made a great run in '93 trying to win a third in a row. Then when Mario retired and the Piper came calling the team when bankrupt and Mario bought the team to save it. Then he had to trade away and sell most of the players to bring down payroll in a buisness decision. Now that there is a salary cap you may be seeing the Penguins come back.
