go to Familyfun.com It's a Disney family magazine website that has a TON of craft ideas for all ages. I got some wonderful ideas for Christmas crafts. They have many different categories to choose from and for the most part they have craft ideas using things that you would have around the house, or inexpensive materials that would be easy to get. Crafts are wonderful gifts and ways to spend time with people you love. I think it helps kids get smarter and gives them great joy to know that they can make things. Have fun!!!!

When my stepdaughter was in 1st grade, I made a simple string art daisy pattern for the entire class and supplied the yarn (I put the nails in the boards) and let them string them for a 'class' project at the school (with instruction and help from myself and the teacher.) They got to keep their daisy and take it home.

They loved it, the school loved it and put them ALL on display in the front hall until the end of the semester, when they got to take them home.

It beat the hell out of baking cookies!!

There are also simple latchhook kits and crosstitch kits available.

My 10 yr old loves to cross stitch. I usually get her the small mini kits with Pooh or TIgger. She also like pet desings.
We frequently go to Michaels to buy small painting kits or acitvity sets. She also likes to paint wood shapes and hang them all over the place. Puzzles are another fun thing to do.
