You are not what happens to you. You are what you do with what happens to you.

Hi Rena, Some people are & some are not. Everyone reacts or responds differently. Some take the negative stuff that happens to them & they just can never get past it. They walk around in bandages carrying a sign that says,"They damaged me". Yet, others use the negative things that have happened as a tool to rise above the wounds & they heal without scars. We see it every day. 2 people, both raised in abusive homes, one spends their entire life angry & scarred, while the other deals with their wounds to become somthing more than a walking abused child. I have dealt with much of my past & have learned that I am not defined by it.

i believe that me as a person is the result of what happens to me.i have the choice of making right and wrong decisions or writing the future. because of the choices that i make,i use those to make certain decisions which in turn will affect me for the good or bad depending upon the choices and the situation. being "me" shows me my paths, what my choices are,and how to get there..what happens to me is not fate, destiny or a mirage: it is the life's mystery of how you as a human make the choices to be better and to achieve what you want. saying that you are not what happens to you is wrong. almost 2 years ago i wrecked my car, was 2 inches away from dear death and escaped. because of that instance i learned how important life is and how not to take it for granted. life teaches you many lessons if you are willing to accept them.

Since we are the universe, we are what happens to us in terms of the aspects affected. Each moment of consciousness has 3000 aspects, the core of which is the part of consciousness that is the storage off beliefs. If that changes, everything changes. Beliefs are voluntary decisions. So, the circumstances I produced show me the effects of my beliefs, and I, then, can make a decision about that.

I believe we are shaped by things that happen to us.
I believe my upbringing contributed to my becoming emotionaly ill and prone to substance abuse, but then I have a good friend who growing up in the same type of situation made different choices and recoverd early from the damage done to her.So I guess that says ,that it depends upon the person and their attitude. mine was to escape through any means nessasary. hers was to succeed at school and get out on her own .she looked at her examples and decided she wouldnt be like that.
so i guess what im saying is that yes ,what happens to you can influence your life. but you have to make the choice. This situation SUCKS! do I want it to make my whole life suck? or do I just get over it?and then you start searching out the non sucky version of things to add to your life.positive people ,positive situations.
by doing this for myself I have become what I believe My higher power has designed me to be.and I learned to not be swayed by the bad things. You have the choice.
peace><>

No, I believe that the things that have happened to me in my life I have allowed in some way or another, I may not have realized it at the time or even know now what it was that I did!!

Absolutely.
We cannot control the outside factors which occur without our consent, but we can control the way we react to them.
If you consider any tragic event, you can find people who allow them to destroy their lives, and people who build on their trials to achieve something new.
For people to accept the limitations of their own influence is to allow themselves to live life as it comes to them, but for those people who cannot wrap their minds around the fact that some things happen without their influence, any unexpected event is a tragedy, just because they cannot surrender their illusion of control.

For people who work within their situational environment, the hardest things they go through become the most strength-building. Easy things are fun, but you don't grow from them.
So in short, I believe that we do not control our surroundings, only our reactions to them.

Life is a series of events ( in the simplest form) that happen around us. We chose to validate these by having a physical effect in regards to our reaction or response to these. Often we let things that happen influnce us to a large degree but they only define who you are if you so choose.

Well, i guess i don't believe that because i always thought life will turn out the way it was meant to be with a little intervention on our side and who i am will be shaped by it.

The things that happen in life constantly shape you, how you act who you decide to be.

Example would be touching a hot stove, as simple as this idea is it applies to almost everything.

God bless.

No waht happens to you RE life experiences make you what you are along with your genetics. Your environment influences your decisions, thought processes and your health. Every decision your make is directly related to your passed responses in similar situations.
