Not necessary. All that needs to be done is to cut out their entire source of income. Within a couple of years, they will have lost their ability to rule the country. We should also send as much support as possible to those who are fighting for freedom.

Invade? And do what? Cause yet another war where even more innocent people get killed in the crossfire? Cause an even bigger war because our presence over there will polarize most of southeast Asia against us because they don't want us over there in the first place (they already think we interfere too much)? Ultimately piss China off and risk starting WWIII?
Sucks for Burma, but this mess has been going on for a long, long time. The U.S. cannot keep acting like the global watchdog, because ultimately we're just coming off as a big nosy bully. And we've got our own problems here that have been neglected for far too long (poverty, gang violence, etc.). If Burma falls, sucks for them. We've meddled in Ethiopia, Somalia, and the Sudan - with no positive outcome. It's horrible, but there is nothing we can do. At best, invasion will simply destroy what is left of the country's resources and continue the starvation of the people.

Well regardless of whether or not it would be right America has already spent all its wartime capital for the next few decades. We have essentially become a paper tiger.
Any new invasions would be a PR nightmare. Regardless of the administrations & or the publics intentions we would be branded as imperialists fueling any insurgency that would most likely crop up.
Besides that China would do what it has always done by sending in "Volunteers" and play its little game of proxy war till the American people get tired of the carnage and call for the return of its soldiers. Then you'd have yet another oppressive communist state out there.
At least this way the oppression the democracy protesters are facing has the effect of the world seeing them in a noble light.

Yes, go ahead, invade. Do something else stupid and similar like Iraq.
You will distablise the whole of SE Asia, and I don't feel like the ASEAN powers will be happy. If it's under the UN, it would be strategically far better for USA to do that, (and the disstabilising would be far less)but I wouldn't suggest it, especially since the UN has being incredibly weakened, by the USA itself.
Better off, invade Iran. Watch the ripple-on effect of that, and see how you create WWWIII.
Seriously, what is America's obssession with invading things?

interior the 1st place, the UN does no longer invade countries. they simply enter with the aid of consent of the country. The Burmese militia cares approximately itself. the all of us is expendable. whilst the suffering is easy, there is not any useful way in need of going to warfare with Burma to settle in this difficulty. The Burmese generals are properly conscious of the reality that they are seen an evil government. because of the fact the U. S. has bungled Iraq, you will no longer locate plenty help for ousting the present rulers in Burma. unhappy, definite. however the UN has continually been an oxymoron. The countries at the instant are not united.

Firstly it would be against the UN charter to invade an independent country, and the US is one of the five Permanent Members of the UN Security council, and a signatory to the UN Charter, not that it has stopped the US from violating the UN charter or any other agreement they wish over the years, including the current Iraq bungle.
One or two other people have given good answers, and I fully support their views.
