I love my mac but have too many networking problems and because of that am considering switching to a pc. I really want to stay w/ a mac because I work w/ media, but I can't afford to if I can't network effectively (one of the big probs: Microsoft Word/excel docs saved on my mac often don't open on pcs, even though I have word installed on my comp... is this a file format issue?) help!

You are doing something wrong, it's not your MAC.

Please re-post and answer these questions:

1. Is your MAC wired to a router (or Wireless to a router) or directly connected to your Cable / DSL modem?

2. "Microsoft Word (.doc) / Excel docs (.xls) saved on my mac often don't open on Windows" What version of M$-Office on the MAC and what file format do you use to save them for use on Windows?

3. What version of M$-Office is on the Windows PC?

4. Have you called Apple for tech support?

Then, maybe we can help.
