Best do not force him to travel when he is not ready for it, nor urge him to much, would be a nightmare for him.
Traveling is only fun if you embrace the idea, then you can take the bad with the good.
Maybe you can help him find a place where people with like interests gather.
If he is into computers, maybe there is a trade-show to do with computers that he would like to see, or a games competition he would like to enter?
And 20 is still rather young to travel alone and up to 25 you still get most age reductions, and at that age most people are better ready to travel.
Many people never travel in their lives, most people in our grand parents and great grandparents generations never traveled at all unless they were forced because they needed to find a job (or for emigration,) and most of those people were very happy being home bodies.
Maybe you yourself should travel, and see the world, you are still young enough.
If you show your son your pictures when you come home he might get the urge, but as he is his own person and not a copy of you, maybe not.

If you want to take a trip on a budget , I suggest staying within the U.S. You can visit Colorado , Montana , Florida ect for much much less than Europe , or most of Asia . India would be an exception . However , the flights cost quite a bit .
The Dominican Republic has great values , cheap flights , friendly people , cheap lodgings , low crime .
and the dollar still goes a long way.
Europe , Canada and other countries that follow the Euro are a poor value because of the weak dollar .

That's a great question. And a lovely idea too. You don't mention where "this town" is, but I guess one of the things you will need to consider is whether he has a passport yet. Could determine the scope of where he goes. Getting one can take a few weeks.
I guess if "the sky is the limit" I would want him to see some of the wonders of the World. The Pyramids of Egypt, the Eifel Tower, the mountains of the alps, etc. It will need to be something that fires up his imagination as well though.

Sorry wrong person. Depends on where you live the continent of europe would be nice eurailing. Also he could go to somewhere in the middle east and earn good money. Or even join a mission to a foreign county to help stabilize and repair the countries infrastructure.

Did you ever sit back and think that maybe your son is happy just the way he is? If he is thriving and not voicing an urge to explore the universe, I would leave him alone until he does.
Out of concern, talk to him and see what he desires to do and take it from there together.
