Hi! I've just graduated from college majoring in Business Management. I'm interested in taking a Master's degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering. I'm thinking of putting up a tech firm in the future

1. I'm wondering is it possible to jump straight to Master's and is this move recommendable.

2. What schools have a good program for a Master's degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering?

3. Do i really need a Master's degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering to put up a tech firm?

Thank you very much!

From my understanding, you need to check into the school you want to get a masters from. Some of them require you have an undergrad from an ABET accredited university. Some might let you in on a preliminary basis, non-degree pursuing for two semester and you have to have a certain GPA in all classes by the end to be considered into the degree pursuing (what i might have to do and i have a ECE Degree).

Schools depends on where you are and how much money you want to spend and if you will relocate.

Tech Firm do you need the degree, neah. Depends as a whole (Comp Sci might be another route). If you are "running" it and have other people hired to do the work then no.

But if you are starting a company doing engineering type work. You need to look at State Law. What I mean is some states do not allow you to self-practice (ie run a small business doing engineering) unless you have your PE. So something else to look into.

If anything is confusing feel free to drop me a line and i will help how i can.

To answer your questions:

1. Yes it is possible. But prior to getting a master's, job experience is something that might benefit you. If you want to create a start up, you will really benefit from having worked before you do it. Especially if you want venture capital funding.

2. Google this one and find out. It should be an easy search.

3. No. What you need is an idea, funding and the work ethic to make it happen. Remember, Bill Gates didn't even graduate from college. Of course, he was a very bright and very driven person...
