Space settlements are an unlikely and impractical idea because the only resource in space is diffuse energy from sunlight. No minerals, no water, no crops, no air.

If you wish to hollow out an asteroid you might spin it up and create a sort of world on the interior surface, but the available area might be limited.

The only vaguely practicable place for a settlement is Mars.
