Airplane or plane. My fiance switches between plane and aircraft. He got used to saying "aircraft" when he was in the Army.

My husband is an aircraft mechanic. And from what I understand an airplane is an aircraft with fixed wings while the term "aircraft" is anything that flies. aka: helicopter/hot air balloon/cargo/fighter...
