I would love to see the Deftones do a swing album. I think it would be wild!

But just the one album. Then it's back to business as usual. :)

jmike - I dig how you put what you're listening to in your answers. "Lit Up" is a great song.

Deke - that's fine. KISS is certainly not known for doing a lot of acoustic work, so that would be a pretty drastic departure for them.

lovnrckets - agreed. I think Al could pull anything off, honestly.

sylvia - I'm not her biggest fan either, but she has got one of the best voices I've ever heard.

Dani G - LOL!

BuzzKill - I would love to hear the Yeah Yeah Yeahs do that!

MachPen - Mike Patton doing that would be awesome! :)

I think you're pretty right -- seeing Chino and the boys do a "Zoot Suit Riot" rendition would be very fitting :)

But now you've got me thinking of other artists who could probably also pull off the 'swing' genre pretty good. I'd have to say that of my favorite artists I'd love to hear Mike Patton do a dirty boogie -- Brian Setzer style; considering the amazing pliability of his voice, I think he would pull it off with complete ease. We've already seen him cover the The Commodores. He did a fantastic job of "Easy (Like Sunday Morning)"

I agree with Buzzkill; I also think Karen-O would be very fitting for a playful Ska side project ( a la Specials) :)

edit: btw - Al Jourgensen (aka BuckSatan) likes to surprise us down here when he guest Dj's (he spins country vynil). It wouldn't surprise me one bit, if he's already worked on a side project while in town. The Old El Paso kitsch has really changed him these last four, five years. He and Angie love it.

Good question. Honestly, I just want my favorite band to go back to the studio, but I don't see that happening any time soon. The last Kiss album was a complete disaster.

Other then them, and I'm looking over my collection, I don't see any particular artist / band that I think I could enjoy in a completely different setting. Oops.... back up. I'd love for Zakk Wylde to go back and do a pure southern rock album in the vein of the Pride and Glory record.

NP: "Lit Up" - Buckcherry

Edit: Yes, Sookie... "Lit Up" is a great song! And Deke, I will once again agree with you on the Kiss / acoustic thing. The Unplugged album was the best thing they've released since '77.... and that's saying a lot because Creatures and Revenge are just great albums.

I'm a little late to the boat, but I just thought of an answer. There is a Pavement song called Robin Turns 26 from a comp called "At Home At The Grove Box" that was this neat kind of slacker-y rap tune. I think it was probably just Steve, Bob and some chick that I suspect was Steve's girlfriend at the time (I am by no means certain, but the voices are similar). If they could do a record that was like that I would definitely be interested. Although, I think part of why that song is so cool is that it's a weird departure for them. It's a super cool song though, really awesome lyrics and a fun flow to it.

So, for what it's worth that would be really intriguing. Malkmus seems to be more and more interested in weird little synths as time goes on, so maybe there will be another track or so like that in the future.

Hmmm, see...this is the dilemma, I am currently in limbo with having a "favorite band" at the moment. Yes, it's much like being a King without a country but I'll get by : )

So, I'll do this with an artist I last purchased music by:

I'm not sure how well it would sound but I would be awfully intrigued to hear the Yeah Yeah Yeahs do a trip-hop album.

As for Deftones doing swing - that would be one of the most beautiful disasters that I would gladly pay money to experience : )

The Deftones doing a cover of Zoot Suit Riot would be just that; a riot! Let's see....we could have AFI become a synth-driven band like Depeche Mode. Oh wait, that already happened with Blaqk Audio. There were rumors swirling around at one time that Ministry was planning on doing an entire album of country. Crazy as it sounds, they might have been able to pull it off.

I think so too, Sookie, not to mention he already is quite fond of wearing the cowboy hat. He's got the look down for sure.

Gogol Bordello would almost certainly do a traditional Gypsy/East European album, or a reggae album heavy on the dub. I would like to hear the traditional album because I'm a fan of traditional music from around the world/

no longer likely. some share an identical kind, yet distinctive sub-genres. innovative dying steel, Experimental/Depressive Black steel, post-Punk, Shoegaze, Screamo/Emo (genuine variety), Atmospheric Black steel, Hardcore Punk/hard Rock, Grindcore, human beings/decision and post-Rock. i'm no longer itemizing the genres to sound arrogant approximately my "distinctive" flavor, basically asserting. :b BQ: My popular kind is post-Punk, so no. BQ2: The lyrics and environment. BQ3: Jimi Hendrix. BQ4: i've got basically heard 2 songs by using the guy, so i does not understand. BQ5: Ska. BQ6: i'm no longer able to even remember the final time I opened a e book. BQ7: bypass.

She's not my favorite artist by any stretch of the imagination, but I would LOVE to hear Xtina do a blues album.

Not the blues-influenced album that she recently put out (which is surprisingly good!), but a real, honest-to-god blues album.

That chick has THE voice to sing the blues.

This probably isn't *exactly* what you mean, but I would love to see the original members of KISS record some of their songs acoustically. Alanis re-recorded her 'Jagged Little Pill' acoustically, in its entirety, and it was fantastic. Some cuts were better than the originals.

I've heard acoustic versions of "Mr. Speed", and think it would be a great song, reborn. Also, songs like "Shandi" were meant to be done acoustically.

I'd like to see Fleetwood Mac go Celtic, or do a Celtic version of the Rumours album.
