I actually like hockey, but it gets "zero" coverage down here.

There were 2 games played in England at noon edt on Saturday and Sunday, going up against the NFL and the MLB pennant races

I'd wait a week or two before getting too frustrated.

EDIT: bill w, Dallas is actually the NHL's one shining example of how expansion can help grow the sport in a given area. The city ha evolved into a tremendous amateur hockey hotbed and their teams have been extremely competitive at USA Hockey National tourneys.

Now, whether or not Texas has the most teams etc, I cannot say.

Not to detract from the op's question, but here is something for bill w and zapcity.

List of Professional Hockey Teams in Texas:

NHL
Dallas Stars

AHL
Houston Aeros
San Antonion Rampage

ECHL
Texas Wildcatters

CHL
Texas Brahmas
Austin Ice Bats
Corpus Christi Rayz
Laredo Bucks
Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees
Odessa Jackalopes

Also Lubbock Cotton Kings were forced to take a 1 year hiatus and cease operations for 2007-08 season. Also a 7,500 seat arena is being built in Allen that will open in 2009 and house a CHL team.

Before 2001, the WPHL had 18 teams and 11 of those were from Texas. Then the league was bought by the CHL and now only the six above remain.

Looks like we have a lot of them, I remember seeing somewhere that was the most, but that was as of a couple years ago though and I know California now has a good number of teams as well.

Here in Washington DC did not know the season had started thought it started later this week, but went to the Capitals preseason game last Sunday and have tickets for the home opener against the Hurricane on Saturday night! GO CAPS!

P.S. Does anyone know that Texas is the Ice Hockey Capital of the world. They have more ice hockey teams per area then any where else in the world. Seems strange, thought Canada would have that title, but it is true.

There are a lot of people in high broadcasting places in the US who are still pissed off about the NHL lockout. Until they are satisfied that the NHL has grovelled enough, by way of the NHL enduring partial coverage without cost to the networks, then there will be no change.

In the meantime, the millions of people who hated hockey from the start are taking this opportunity to actively try to keep it off of TV and the public's radar screen by repeatedly and loudly saying about how "boring hockey is", how "violent" it is, and about how "nobody" even likes it or watches it. Many of these people also hate soccer and are doing the same thing to soccer. They perhaps feel that "un-American" things should be banned. Which would really suck, because there would go basketball and football (invented by Canadians) and baseball (evolved from English sports). Anyways.

However, there is still a strong hockey market in the US which is probably larger than Canada itself in population, and they will not tolerate the exclusion of hockey from TV for much longer.

p.s. - I don't believe DanKohner's "statistic" about Texas and hockey for one second.

that's undesirable adequate that bettman is destroying our game, and now we are forced to deal with referees figuring out playoff video games! i'm furious. The geese would desire to have paid off the zebras... that sequence is a damn comedian tale. Calgary replaced into giftwrapped a game 3 win moreso on a collection of non-calls yet there have been some questionable calss to boot.. like that goaltender interference DIVE! CRAP The rangers are dominating atlanta ordinary, there have been some shady calls yet no longer something that has effected the sport (in what little of the sequence I even have seen thusfar) Nashville getting away with being the 'gangsters of the NHL', bunch of thugs. Public duty for the officers is the respond. If Jordin "bigface" Tootoo gets 5 video games for a suckerpunch, Bob the linesman gets 3 for a blatant fake call that straight away outcomes a playoff game and you remember between the officers that didnt make the decrease this year. in addition they'd desire to be fined. Dig into their pocketbooks and notice how rapidly they initiate calling the video games somewhat and precise. additionally there would desire to be a video good who comments each and each call made on the ice and has authority to override a foul call. Or a blatant non call. The zebras shouldnt settle on who wins and loses.

I live in Tallahassee, Florida and I noticed. Can't speak for everyone, but there are more hockey fans down here than people realize.

Yeah, the national tv contract won't happen and Bettman hasn't the guts or the brains to admit it.
