There are two kinds of people who listen to Rush, those who wish to be entertained by the outrageous BS he spews and those who can't think for themselves and want someone to tell them how to think. The majority of people don't listen because they have lives and thus better things to do.

The same could be said of those that listen to Air America. Neither will ever take the same hard look at their own party that they want their listeners to do to the opposition party.
So tell me the difference.

Not at all.
Folks like listening to rush Limbaugh because he is amiable, funny, and his show is entertaining and interesting.
His beliefs Reflect what many of his listeners believe, they do not "Cause" people to believe anything different than they already do.
Mr. Limbaugh is one of the great "extemporaneous" speakers of our time. Whether you agree or disagree with his political views (and at least 50 to 55% of all Americas identify themselves as conservatives...) if youl listen with an open mind, you will be entertained.
That's his job.

His listeners trust him. And I expect that a lot of what he says resonates with his listeners' own experience.
Limbaugh isn't saying anything that a lot of people already think and thought for a long time before they ever heard Limbaugh.
The same claim could be made about left-leaning people who listened to Air America Radio, when there was still an Air America Radio. Conservatives are not the only people who like hearing their own views over the airwaves.
I don't listen to talk radio. It gives me a headache.

Get ready to learn something new: The oddest thing I have ever heard -- but true -- is from a guy who votes Democrat all the time, who listens to Rush daily, and Hannety, because they have such entertaining stories. For him, it's entertainment. He attaches no political significance or subtext to Rush's """funny""" stories about how stupid young people are, how stupid progressive people are, how stupid dark-skinned people are, how stupid nearly everyone is, etc. He just laughs at the stories.
I think many people -- while not like this particular guy -- listen more apolitically to Rush than I would be able to. When he tells one of his patented drooling drug-fueled tales of beating a kleenex in a fair fistfight last night, I read reams of political subtext into it which I doubt that I should. I think many listening to Rush aren't political creatures, where I am.

Yes, I am a mind numb robot. I think what Rush and Fox News tell me to think.
You are right. Conservatives are heartless people incapable of original thought. Because of your question, I will only read the MoveOn.org web site to get my talking points. I would listen to Air America but since it went bankrupt That will be hard to do. I will get my news from Colbert and Stewert like good liberals do.
Help!

Rush Limbaugh is hilarious. But just as with any other media source, you have to listen with your BS filter turned on. All media is biased. I just prefer Rush's bias over that of the liberal media...

Folks like to listen to what they want, because they enjoy freedom of speech. If you don't like Rush, there's always Keith Obermann or Air America for Bush bashing.
