I need to pick an ocean animal/creature to do a report on. Anyone know any good ocean animals I can do that I will be able to get alot of information on, but not be the same ole everyone else does like sharks, whales etc. I'd like to do something different then the norm but need alot of information. Any ideas? I'm researching now. Thanks

Turtles are good, loggerhead, kemps ridley, green, leatherback. Sea stars, lots of types. Octopus, squid, cuttlefish, all interesting behaviors. Bioluminescent stuff like the angler fish....

The molluscs often get forgotten; some of the cooler ones include the various venomous Cone Snails or the famous Blue-ringed Octopus, or maybe a Nautilus (not venomous, but very nifty); Sea Snakes have a good bit of information on them and most people forget about them. Or how about anemones or sea cucumbers? Or - just thought of the coolest things: the marine Flatworms! Do a google on platyhelminthes and see what you get. Talk about wild photos!

How about a octopus;

any of a genus of marine cephalopods having a soft round body large highly developed eyes a beaklike mouth.
8 muscular arms or tentacles bearing rows of suckers.
being able to reach out and grasp.

how about a squid; armed marine cephaloped moluse
having a clongated body a pair of triangular tail fins.
a mouth surronded by 10 sucker bearing arms.
2 which have very long testicles i'm sorry tentacles used to kill prey.

hope that helps.

Narwhal! It is the toothed whale, believed to be the source of the unicorn myths.

Crabs are fun. Especially since they are used for food and pets (think hermit crabs). There are a LOT of different crabs, from the hermit crabs (live in shells) to coconut crabs (will climb trees to get a coconut) to decorator crabs (tears off pieces of anything around it to put on itself for camoflauge) to fiddler crabs (one large claw) to king crabs (strange looking food) to the beautiful swimmers, the economically important crabs of the Chesapeake and the environmentally destructive green crabs of Bodega Bay. Go with crabs. They're really awesome creatures. To start, research the difference between anomurans and brachyurans. This can help you group some crabs together, or you could go based on ones that are economically important (ie food crabs and destructive crabs, like the European Green Crab in Bodega Bay and even pet crabs) and ones that are not usually eaten.
