Thanks for yet ANOTHER screwing, Jennifer. Take away our jobs, make it harder for us to pay for the gas to drive to work, half freeze our kids in school during the winter, and load them up with homework(and dont forget the kids that get passed through with NO Child Left Behind), tax the hell out of everything and now I wont be able to light up?? Watch me.

I'm a MI resident as well.. the way you portrayed this isn't quite correct. Smoking isn't illegal everywhere but bars, the proposal was just to make it illegal to smoke in restaurants, but bars sound to be excluded.

You can still smoke in your home, private property, in a bar, your car, etc. I see people all of the time lighting up in front of grocery stores, Walmart, K-mart, etc. Unfortunately, even the bus drivers at the elementary schools will walk their distance off of school property (I think it's 500 ft) and light up there.

I'm definitely NOT a fan of Granholm. She's really "blown us away" as she said she would in her campaign ads.. yeah, blown most everyone (companies and residents alike) out of the state. But as a non-smoker and a mother, I'd be glad to be rid of smoking in public places. Although to be honest, who does she plan to enforce it? She enjoys cutting cops jobs as much as she likes cutting education!

I still think it should be up to the bar/restaurant owner. We have enough government in the state as it is.

I have quit for about 1 year now and I was in a bar the other night and it was quite smoky. I never noticed how bad that can be until after that. But I still think those who do have the right too. Not around children though.

I would of liked not to stink like it or had my eyes burn but I agree with the other person in that it should be up to the bar owner. I knew going there people would be smoking so that being said I simply didn't have to.

For those of us who chose not to smoke, it's great! Here in Maine there's no smoking in any restaurants or bars. I have asthma, and I couldn't go into any places where there was smoking happening, and it's nice now to be able to without having an asthma attack. And in restaurants you can actually smell the food, and not just the smoke. Frankly, I believe it should be a national law. You want to smoke? No problem. But please, don't inflict it on me.

In Houston it's not even legal to smoke at bars. I personally love it. It makes it a lot more pleasant going out. And I don't smell so bad when I get home.

Good.

Eventually, restaurants and bars will lose out on business if they continue to allow smoking. Down the road, I envision law suits against bar owners that allow smoking. By both patrons and employees. Smoking bans will happen anyway no matter how you look at it.

Welcome to half the states in the US. Most states already wont even let you smoke in the bar. NJ, NY, Cal, etc, wont let you smoke anywhere indoors anymore.. I am a smoker, but I totally agree with this law. I used to hate eating dinner at a restaurant and smell someones smoke. I dont mind going outside at all to smoke

I don't see what the problem would be with individual establishments deciding for themselves whether they want to be a smoking or a non-smoking facility. A sign out front. The potential patrons can then make their own decision whether to go in or not.

Smoking isn't allowed in Ohio even in bars. You have to be a certain distance from any public place in order to smoke. Thank goodness - I don't want to get cancer just because you smoke and have the desire to kill yourself.
