Rant #1 : Backache! I toss and turn at night, and I know it is ideal to sleep on your side but always end up sleeping on my back as I find this the most comfortable!

Rant #2 : Tiredness! I need caffeine, but you aren't allowed it during pregnancy! I am literally dropping off at work, I'm suprised I haven't started drooling on the desk lol!

Rant #3 : Sciatica! Oh the pain!

At (a rather large) 5 n 1/2 months pregnant, I find the extra weight hard to carry and all these problems are getting me down. I wanted my pregnancy to be a happy time but through all of the hormones and acne and pains, I can't help but feel as though I am acting like a miserable ungrateful moaner :-(

Does anyone have any ideas to help cure the aches and pains? Or even as a bonus, the acne and rashes! Just want to feel blooming and radient and to enjoy my pregnancy!

Thanks in advance xxx

Hi. I'm 23 weeks pregnant today. I know how you feel!

I toss and turn all night too, from one side to the other. I was always a side sleeper before, but for some reason now I want to be on my back all the time. Don't worry if you end up on your back, though. Your body will alert you to change positions before it becomes a huge problem for your baby (according to my doctors and other stuff I've read).

You can have a little caffeine.... one or two servings a day if you must. It's not the best thing in the world, but it's understandable if you feel like you need it. Try decaf. too - it has a little caffeine in it, which may be enough to perk you up... it works for me. Also, when you are feeling sluggish, have some cold water and some protein, like nuts.

Sorry about the sciatica. I have had this a little but not too bad yet. If you get more exercise, that should help with it a little bit. If the pain is too much to bear, take a tylenol (or anything with acetaminophen).

Good luck. :)

i'm sorry you are not having a joyful pregnancy :( there are some things you can try...i haven't read everyone else's answers so i hope these are not repeats...there is a "holster" to hold up the baby, that will help with the back pain. you wear it under your clothes or alot of pants have now have a lift in it to help your relieve discomfort. as for the rashes you should try baby powder, it has a comforting smell too. the acne is a hard one, make sure you keep your face clean when you go to bed & if it's that bad you can get a perscription from your Dr. that you can use during pregnancy. as for sleep, try going to bed a little earlier...the first 3 & last 3 months are the hardest, your body is doing the most work. the middle 3 are tiring too because you have the most energy (hence nesting) & we tend to do too much then again get really really tired. take it easy!! & try to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!

Check here a very effective Sciatica Natural Treatment ( http://cure-sciatica.info )
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

Oh i feel your pain! I had horrible back pain from sleeping on my back, i felt like my kidneys were blocking or something. I bought a 1.5 m long pillow, quite narrow which i now hug every night, i find sleeping on my left side comfortable now and don't turn on my back anymore.
I also have an odd pain in my back between my ribs which causes the ribs in the front to go numb and have pins and needles. When it gets very, very bad i take paracetamol. Nothing i can do about that one, baby is sitting on a nerve.
Unfortunately most pregnancies are not very pleasant and most women don't feel particularly radiant, but look at the positive : you are more than half way there and you get to have a beautiful baby at the end of it. It will all be worth it.

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and i wish i could tell you it gets easier but i'm sorry i can't. I can give you a few tips though!

For the backache, lie what ever you find most comfortable, i bought a tummy wedge which helped me. My midwife said don't lie on your back coz it can put strain on your heart but i lay on my back for the 1st 6 months and i am fine!

Tiredness - you can have some caffeine, i still drink Coffee and tea just don't have 10 cups a day.

Oh and the sciata - the bain of my life, however in the last few weeks it has eased. You can get acupuncture which my friend swore by, but if you don't want anything so severe, i tuck the duvet between my legs at night and instant relief or use a towel or thin pillow - trust me it works.

I only started getting spots in the last few weekson my face and they are driving me crazy, so sorry can't help with this one.

Good luck!

Oh I'm glad I'm not pregnant anymore (my baby is 6 months old). I know exactly how you feel. Try taking a nap after work, even for a 1/2 hour before dinner and take a nice warm shower in the evenings before bed, it might help you sleep better. I put pillows under my knees when i was laying down to help with the Sciatica...but there really isn't much you can do about it.
Hang in there, as soon as you see that little baby all the pains simple disappear.
Good luck.

Either sleep with a bunch of pillows around your body to support your belly while on your side. Sleep on your back if you have to...its not as worrysome as you would think.

You can have a cup of coffee, tea or soda with caffeine...you dont need to cut it completely, just limit it to one or two a day. And Im not talking about having a Mt Dew...that is a lot of sugar and caffeine. Have a half cup coke or coffee when you get that dropping off feeling.

Sciatica....umm, sorry, there isnt a whole lot to do about it except maybe some prenatal exercises or see a chiropractor who specializes in pregnancy. It helped me a lot to see a chiropractor. Do cat stretches to ease your back and nerves into place. Dont move real fast..that makes the back pain worse.

Take a nap....never hurt anyone. LOL I know..easier said than done.

Well as far as the aches and pains you'll have to cope, unfortunatley that is just part of being pregnant, however it does help to stay well hydrated with water, I know its not the most apealing thing but it will make you feel better and give you more energy than any caffene drink because the caffene will drop you after your rush is gone, making you feel even worse. Also my chiropracter was a godsent with my last pregnancy and with this one (37 weeks) a good re- adjustment can really help and even without insurace they are not very expensive. And last, as far as the acne goes I will swear by proactive, Its safe and gentle, and best off you have nothing to lose , and it works in a short period of time. They have face and body proucts and if your not happy with it its fully refundable. I hope this helps you. good luck and try to relax and enjoy, Its over quicker than you think!

i am also 22 weeks and i feel your pain.

I try to sleep on my sides but after a while its the hips that kill me. I too find myself on my back. A pillow under your belly helps with the backache for a while anyways.

Caffeine is allowed in pregnancy. i told my doctor i drank 2 cups a day and she said it was fine. Caffeine is also in chocolate and soda pop so cut the other two out and enjoy a nice cup of coffee. Just not 20 a day!!!!

Sorry no acne or rashes here. Just heartburn and nausea.

gl to you.
