Transferring files between computers via USB cable can be a bear unless you are running WinXP on both computers.
Other options for transferring files:
- use a thumb drive (my personal preference - cost can be as low as $10 for a small one). You may be able to borrow one.
- burn the file to a CD
- email the file to yourself
You stated the size of the file isn't that big - but you should know how many mega-bytes it is! There can be a huge size difference in files that take 20 min. to view! If you don't know how to check this yourself, ask - lots of folks can help you : )

Your only method is to use network the two PC's. You can't do this with a USB cable.
They both must have ethernet connections and you'll need a crossover cable.
When connected - and presuming you have Windows XP or Vista, you'll need to run the Home Network setup to have everthing configured correctly. This going correctly should create two shared points on the laptop and PC. You can access that area from your PC and 'pull' the file across.
To be honest, I'd just get a memory stick - it's easier and you never know - you may need it again.

flash drive is recommened for anyone using 2 computers unless you have a network. which you also can use. If your computer plugs into a hub or router and your laptop plugs into the same hub or router you can start a network by going to network places (on the desktop if you use the classic start menu in xp or in the start menu if you use the xp start menu) the clicking on the left hand side set up a home or office network. If your laptop is wireless you can hook the computer up to the wireless router and do the same thing but using set up wireless network link on the left of the same window. Do this for both computers and make sure you name the networks on each computer the same exact thing. I use the default workgroup and because its not case sensitive, being that what ever you type in is always caps you only have to worry about spelling.

Honestly they're cheap and flexible, buy a USB stick. If you've got a Laptop and a PC you're going to be doing this a lot and memory stick is the simplest solution. Honestly, get one. For £20 it'll be invaluable and how much did you spend on the PC and Laptop?

I did just this last year. Can't remember exact details but you can export messages from Outlook Express to a file, transfer the file to your laptop and Import it to Windows Mail. Same can be dome with contacts. It took me a while to get it right but it can be done.

You can write it to a CD, most computers have CD writers in them. If you have a home network set up, such as a router you can do it that way as well, or you can find a web site that will let you upload files and then redownload it off your computer

I'd use the USB Cable or just email it to yourself then open it and save it on your PC. If it is too big to email, (i know you said it's not but sometimes email servers can be funny) just zip the file email it and then unzip and save it.
Easy Peasy!!
