Mark David Chapman 12/8/80, outside the Dakota building where Lennon lived. Chapman got Lennons autograph from him on his way out of the building, then waited hours for Lennon to return from the recording studio. Chapman shouted Lennons name, then executed him. He had a copy of "Catcher in the rye" in his pocket when arrested. Lennon died at Rosevelt Hospital.
