Hi, I want to get involved; any tips for a beginner? I'm in Dorset about an hour west of Bournemouth. Who should I get in contact with, and what (if any) basic equipment do I need?

Your local council should be able to put you in touch with the environment department and you'll find all the information you need through them, good luck.
