It's got to be the Lord of the Rings Trilogy - I've loved those books since I was about 10, and I thought they made an amazing job of the films. Although the films weren't completely accurate, they were as close as I've ever seen any film get to the original film.

Oh, and Pride and Prejudice - I love both the BBC and the more recent version - both really different but brilliant takes on the book.

I think the best books I have ever read that were turned into films have to be the Tolkein books. However, this is somewhat of a biased opionion as I love Tolkein in any form.

Second comes, Virginia Andrews - Flowers in the Attic, only wish she'd made the sequal's into films.

A couple of titles that spring to mind are:
1984 by George Orwell
and Papillon by Henri Charriere
both brilliant books and good films

Mine was Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter and the movie sucked bigtime. The movie totally destroyed what the book was about.

Lord of the Rings - I always wanted this to be made into a movie - and I absolutely loved it.

Years later I read His Dark Materials and that was the movie I was waiting for, but, it looks like they've felt the need to change and censor it; I'm not looking forward to it as much anymore.
