A ghost is defined as the apparition of a deceased person, frequently similar in appearance to that person, and usually encountered in places she or he frequented, or in association with the person's former belongings. The word "ghost" may also refer to the spirit or soul of a deceased person, or to any spirit or demon. Ghosts are often associated with hauntings, which is, according to the Parapsychological Association, "the more or less regular occurrence of paranormal phenomena associated with a particular locality (especially a building) and usually attributed to the activities of a discarnate entity; the phenomena may include apparitions, poltergeist disturbances, cold drafts, sounds of footsteps and voices, and various odours."
Ghosts are a controversial anomalous phenomenon. According to a poll conducted in 2005 by the Gallup Organization, about 32% of Americans believe in the existence of ghosts. The term ghost has been replaced by apparition in parapsychology, because the word ghost is deemed insufficiently precise.
Hope this helps

This is going to be your best answer. There is no correct meaning for the word ghost, simply because there is no such thing as a ghosts. Simply put they do not exist. There are more important things to worrie about in life then to worrie about these so called ghosts. Show me a real ghost and I'll sell you some ocean front property in Arizona. Don't believe everything you hear when it comes to ghosts because they are not real. Believe what you will, but this is the best answer you will find.

I can only offer the kind of definition that you might find in a dictionary or Wikipedia, which I'm sure you won't find useful. Scientifically, however, no valid definition for "ghost" exists because there is no credible scientific evidence for their existence in the first place. This is one of many reasons why all research that has to do with ghosts is pseudoscience.

That the spirits of people.Who for one reason or another remain on Earth.Usually heard about in childhood tales and fictional horror stories.Strangely enough some people still believe in them as adults.Proving silliness is not always something we grow out of.It's great fun listening to their explanations and theories,They don't all agree on what causes ghosts or why they stay. They all have one thing in common though.A desire to believe the unbelievable,no matter how silly it might be.

Ghosts are visual--and based on their reported behavior, physical--manifestations of people who have died. Their existence is completely unsubstantiated and accounts of their appearances frequently incorporate mythological elements of the culture in which they are seen.
