I grew up in a cajun family from south central Louisiana... we never went to church unless it was for weddings or funerals, and we prayed always, but there were some things my momma didn't impose on us really hard that most Catholics were very serious about... I always wear my Scapular, but I hardly ever go to church except for those weddings and funerals, I always cross for when we pass a church/cemetery and we always said we were Catholic, but we don't seem to fit the general stereotype of a 'Good Catholic Family'... I was just wondering if there were more like our family outside of Louisian, cause Lord knows more than half my area of Louisiana were just like our family...

I'm a Cajun. I absolutely love my Cajun roots. I live in Louisiana. My mother was raised Catholic but I was not. My grandmother was devout Catholic. She fit the "Good Catholic Family" stereotype she prayed the rosary every single day, went to church, did all the catholic rituals, etc. she lived in the heart of Cajun country, Eunice, LA and spoke Cajun French and spoke English with that thick Cajun accent. When we visit that side of my family it is centered around the Catholic church and Cajun family functions such as cochon de laits, fais do dos, etc it's a unique way of life even funerals are a celebration of life. Even though it's a sad occasion we still celebrate the life of our loved one. I feel so blessed to be a Cajun, we are truly a unique people. Good luck. 2D

Catholic cajun here, :D! I'm new to the faith - was confirmed 2 years ago at age 30. Yes, there are plenty of cradle Catholics who don't appreciate their faith. Kinda stinks. I've learned not to let that bother me because what matters is MY faith in Jesus and MY relationship with Him. Hopefully I'll set a good example and others will learn from it.

God bless.
