Dark matter existence was hidden in Einstein's cosmological constant.
What it is exactly ,we dont really know. Perhaps its the Substance of the Aether that Einstein was alluding to.

Dark matter was invented by astronomers to try to explain a problem that may not exist.
In a satellite system,as the satellite gets farther away from the sun,it must slow down or spiral away.
A galaxy rotates but it's outer arms are locked in step with the galactic center but they don't fly away,so by packing them all in a field of dark matter the problem is solved.
If a galaxy is not a satellite system some other mechanism must be in effect to make it work.

In their models of the galaxy and the universe as a whole, scientists think there must be far more matter to produce the gravitational effects they see, Far more than what they observe. Since they cannot see it, its called DARK. No one knows if it exists, or if it does, what form its in. Many scientists speculate that its some spooky stuff we cant see, but still has mass. Others claim its black holes, brown dwarfs, or other form of normal matter, but not luminous.

Dark matter is something that does not reflect light, or is too small to observe. Science estimates that 90% of the matter in the universe is comprised of this matter. A black hole falls into this category and a huge amount of matter is concentrated in one of them. The problem science is trying to solve is the cause of the rapid expansion of the universe, they have not found enough dark matter to slow this expansion so they propse there is dark energy causing the expansion, but they can't find this either.

It is something that hold the shape of the galaxy and the supercluster together. The thing have mass but can't be seen, thus called dark matter.
Dark matter is classified into WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Matter Particle) and MACHOs.
