There is such an option and askers use it a lot. It's called "Add details". You'll find it when you click on your question. It doesn't let you answer your own question for credit, but you can answer it, drop hints, or respond to particular answers as you wish. And it's better than comments, since you can add stuff while the question is still open, and the annoying 300-character limit of comments isn't there; it's more like 1000 characters.

Agreed. But I would like it even more general than that. Maybe allow for comments on every single individual answer that are open to askers and answers alike. For example, I've seen plenty of time where a person supplies an answerto a question that I know for certain is wrong. However, I don't know the true answer myself. I want to point out that an answer is incorrect, but I can't do that without answering myself.
It also would be nice to comment in order to get more information, or discusss the reasoning behind certain answers.
The only problem that I see with this is that you open yourselves up to a lot more trolling...

I agree with you, but there is not way that I know of. They should make a teen YA for like 12-18. It happens to me so often, I'm asking a serious question, and get the "I don't know" but, just report them...if they get a enough reports on not giving a answer or ranting they'll be kicked off.

No of course. I know that you might want points to yourself, but it's not worth it. Also, Yahoo! Answers was designed to post your own question for help, not to post questions you already know, right? So I think I agree with others, that Yahoo! Answers shouldn't let us respond to our own question...

Yes, that would be nice. But why is this question posted in the Physics section?
