Germany hun. For the gold and picasso's Hitler had hidden.

The modern world is still living with the consequences of World War 2, the most titanic conflict in history. Just over 67 years ago on September 1st 1939, Germany invaded Poland without warning. By the evening of September 3rd, Britain and France were at war with Germany and within a week, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa had also joined the war. The world had been plunged into its second world war in 25 years. Six long and bloody years of total war, fought over many thousand of square kilometres followed. From the Hedgerows of Normandy to the streets of Stalingrad, the icy mountains of Norway to the sweltering deserts of Libya, the insect infested jungles of Burma to the coral reefed islands of the pacific. On land, sea and in the air, Poles fought Germans, Italians fought Americans and Japanese fought Australians in a conflict which was finally settled with the use of nuclear weapons. World War 2 involved every major world power in a war for global domination and at its end, more than 60 million people had lost their lives and most of Europe and large parts of Asia lay in ruins.

War World II lasted from 1939 - 1945.
The United States did not enter the war for over 2 years. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor the USA no longer had the luxury of choice. They had to act.

The United States and Britain made a formal declaration of war against Japan on December 8, 1941 due to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii the previous day. Germany declares war on the United States on December 11, 1941.

They entered the war because of Japan's bombing of Pearl Harbour. That's the only reason. The WW2 had been going on for over 2 years before America became involved, and America had no plans to get involved.

The American Public was strongly opposed to entering WW2. But FDR and others knew better. Germany had conquered all of western and central Europe except the UK, and Japan was creeping throughout Asia. If Hitler and Hirohito had consolidated their control of those countries, they, along with Mussolini in Italy, would have turned their eyes on the US.

FDR could not enter the war without public support. He gave what support he could to England, but knew he needed to do more. The US placed an embargo on Japan, basically cutting off oil supplies to the island nation. He knew that Japan would be forced to retaliate. He pushed up their attack on the US 4 or 5 years by forcing them to act.

When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, they began the war with the US. But then Hitler foolishly declared war on the US as well. It's doubtful that the American people would have chosen to fight a war in the Pacific and in Europe at the same time, but Hitler did FDR a favor by forcing the US into the war.

Germany declared War against America and America felt it only proper to declare war upon Germany in Return. America entered The Pacific War in direct response to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. A Pacifist might argue that America ought to have turned the other cheek but at that point the entire World was itching to get involved in a war so what the Heck....

America felt obliged to fight against the tyranny of Germany but it is likely that had Hitler held back from Declaring War against America then many in the American Congress may have demanded a Japan Only policy. Hitler was an idiot.

That was the primary reason. Two days after that event Germany declared war on the USA.

pearl harbour was the only reason that america entered wwii.

the anti-war (and pro-nazi) movement 'america first' had a huge following and had a major rally planned in washington for december 8th 1941. for as long as 'america first' commanded the loyalty of a large number of american citizens it would have been impossible for any american president to declare war.

after the attack on pearl harbour 'america first' temporarily suspended its meetings, and then disbanded when war was declared. the american people had stopped being anti-war the moment they were attacked.

a founder member of america first - gerald ford - late became an american president.
