I don't know if it's me or not but I can't sit down to eat if my family haven't eaten first.
I even can't enjoy eating if any of my animals haven't had their evening meal too!
I can't stand the thought of it!

I actually eat with my family, I just couldn't eat if someone was hungry.
Or as armyvet says, I try to have at least one meal a day with my family.

Paula. It must be a mum thing too!
My hubby can eat in front of me and my daughter, he doesn't even think that she may be hungry!!

I always make sure that everyone has eaten or is eating with me, strange as my husband can eat anything in front of the kids and not feel guilty. Maybe it's a mum thing with me.

If I have anything and the kids haven't (because they've had theirs) I always have to share with them.

Typically, it's about 20-30 minutes. However, the reason we sit for so long at restaurants is because we're waiting for the food to be fixed. At home, I already have it fixed by the time dinner is called. We sit down, we eat and talk, and then when we're all done, we leave the table. Our kids have to ask to be excused from the table and we generally don't excuse them from the table until all of us are done eating. We all pitch in to clean up.

because of my shift work, I make sure that we eat at least one meal as a family every day. Sometimes it is lunch, sometimes it is breakfast and sometimes it is dinner... I make sure that we have a family meal once a day. No one eats anything until we are all seated at the table and everyone has food on their plates.

well it depends if its a what ever meal then yea every stomach for them self but if its a family affair where things need be discussed then it goes by order or importance the family elders get served first then go the parents then children usually females first from old to young then the kids then nobody can eat unless my grandmother takes the first bite and approves of the meal usually does unless the taste is out of whack punishment for eating or serving out of order is exclusion from eating thou you still have to be present and your opinion does not count

normal eats of importance go by the cooks requirements which means they eat the first bite then every one else can

Yes. I call it "tasting." I eat after the evening meal too. I call it "too little to save."
