I have been feeling really ill the past few days, i am not sure tho if it is just a cold or if i should see my doctor..... I started to get a bit wheezy on saturday but this seemed to subside once i got some fresh air. I then started to feel really drowsy on saturday night so i went to bed and woke up a few hours later with a burning fever and soaked through with sweat, yet i felt really cold and was dithering. The fever seems to have come from no-where. I am now going hot/cold every few minutes, my nose is streaming, i have a really chesty cough, my eyes ache and i seem to have an ear infection as my ears and the back of my head and my neck really ache, along with my muscles, i just feel really tired all the time. What do you think it could be and do you think i should see my doctor or just wait for it to pass? I have also been taking paracetamol and benilyn but this has no real effect......Thanks for any suggestions x

It sounds like you have an upper respiratory viral or bacterial infection.
It could be from an allergy, a virus, or a bacteria.
The chills and sweats is due to a fever. A fever indicates that your immune system is attempting to fight what ever is causing the infection.
An upper respiratory infection includes the sinuses, nose, back of the throat, ears, and lungs.
An infection in the sinuses, nose, and/or throat can cause referred pain in the ears.
I do not know what country you are in, but I am in the U.S. I beieve paracetamol is acetametaphin which the brand name is Tylenol and this is for fever and aches and pain. And benilyn is a cold medication.
Generally speaking an antihistamine is for runny noses and sinus drainage. Generally speaking a decongestant is for nasal stuffiness. An expectorant is for drainage or chest mucus that is too thick to cough out. The expectorant thins the thick mucus and an expectorant will make you cough so that you will cough the mucus out. Mucus that stays in the upper respiratory tracts is a breeding ground for bacteria to grow. A dry cough requires a cough suppressant.
Use a cold mist humidifier (not a warm one) and place it beside you. This will thin any mucus and if your airway is dry and causing a dry cough it will moisten your airways.
Take and record your temperature so that if you do go to the doctor, you can accurately report it.
With a temperature, take a tepid bath (not hot and not cold). Make sure and wet your head also and stay in for at least 15 minutes. Do not chill because chilling is your body's way of increasing your temperature.
Drink plenty of fluids and do not worry about food...as it is more important to keep hydrated. Jello and ice cream are considered fluids.
Go to a pharmacy and get normal saline drops and use if for nasal stuffiness and for drainage because it will decrease swelling and help dry up drainage.
A virus has a time line and it can be up to 10 days, but you can get a bacterial infection if the viral infection weekens you too much.
If you do not get better in 3 days consider seeing a doctor or if you continue to worsen see a doctor.
Your local pharmacist is a good source for info too.
Good luck!

Sounds like a virus or flu. Keep the fever down (I suggest Tylenol), and take an antihistaimine for the runny nose. If it has settled too deeply into the chest, you may need to see the doctor. The drainage from the head may have settled into your chest and caused an upper respiratory infection, which could possibly turn into pneumonia if left untreated.
In the meantime, drink plenty of fluids. Hot soups such as chicken noodle, or wonton soup usually helps the breathing.

Sounds very much like a nasty dose of Flu so I would suggest you go to bed and stay there until you feel considerably better. If you don't notice an improvement or get worse within the next couple of days telephone your doctor and request a home visit. Normally flu is self limiting and you should improve within 5 days of onset but it can leave you feeling tired and generally run down for a couple of weeks. If you are worried a doctor will come out and see you - its their job.

If you have an infection then you need to see your GP. He will be able to determine what kind of infection you have and what caused it.
