does anybody know what type of flower this is?

because i'm pretty sure it's not a mother-in-laws-tongue

some asked for more details so here it is.
it's growing in Perth, Australia.
the entire plant is basically just what you see in the picture, stem with buds hanging off.
I've never seen the flowers open before.

Oh, you're randomdood. I did a search for your flower and came across your photos at deviantart.com. Anyhow, you are correct in that it is not a mother in law's tongue flower.

I still don't know what the flower is, but I will continue to look.
Could take a while. I'll star it and maybe RScott will join the search.

You know what? I think it is a Hosta flower spike or delphinium that has not opened up yet. Can you give us more information like what does the foliage look like? What zone was it growing in? What do the flowers look like when they are open?

That is so familiar .. I think it is a gasteria. What does the rest of the plant look like? One look is a million words.

Others that fit into the mold are Poellnitzia, Drimiopsis and the smaller grassland aloes such as A. aristata

It certainly is not mother -in laws tongue.
