What can we do to protect out credit card infomation when we pay our bills via telephone?

I mean, if the person who does the wire tapping steals your credit card information, and sells it to theives, when how can you proove they stole your account numbers? How can we protect our credit cards numbers?

There are thousands of easier ways to get a credit card number than tapping a phone line. It would be more trouble than it's worth.

Also, you don't have to prove when or how the number was stolen (most victims of Identity Theft never really know how) only that it was stolen.
