I bought a great book, based on ancients translations taken from modern archaeological evidence, on the Silk road I bought awhile back ,I forgot the name,do a search on Amazon.com, "Silk Road", it's written by a woman Scholar who devoted most of her life studding translated ancient documents that recorded everyday life to to life in the aristocracy in the Asian part of the Silk road,She's from U.K.and has historical, translated accounts of life on the silk road from over 1000 yrs ago,She then wrote a book based on historical writings she used these ancient writings to write a novel about a high level Courtesan, or partner of a powerful Asian trader whom lived at a very important section of the the Silk Road.It was a paperback edition, try Penguin books, this edition had beautiful photographs,of sites and from ancient original old silk road that lead from the far east to the Mediterranean sea..............................................................................................................I think maybe you are not digging deep enough on the web to uncover your facts,But I am at fault as well,my spelling is terrible and many times spellcheck does'nt catch it.I should have a dictionary at hand.and no, you have not read this book.or have you?"Life Along The Silk Road" by Susan Whitfield,By ,British Publishing,She wrote this book based on her research at the Britsh Library, the book has many historical stories including one about a woman whom was traded to a wealthy silk road trader, all based on her research.her project is called "International Dunhuang Project",and it's being produced in order to give internet access to the ancient 50.000 plus, 11th century and earlier, original documents& texts uncovered by archeoligists,,from the Silk Road. These have been translated into english. Also,I found on another website www.redhotcurry.com it has a page dedicated to an exhibit in the UK that has all sorts of artifacts, and relic's from British musuem's,Information on the silk road, that's where I found Ms. Whitfield's name mentioned and her project..also,I made a error in suggesting amazon.com,as they had nothing,no books, on Ms. Whitfield's book,,I do not believe it was my mispelling of whitfield either,it should have come up on the search, because I had "Silk Road" as well has author's name included in the search??The book is called "Life along the Silk Road",the original hardback was published by English Publishing,I do not know if Peguin did the paperback, excuse my research, but please don't discount a person's suggestions, due to a typo, many times a good source like amazon will not have book or it is trying to sell other publisher's books and will exclude or important books. this will be of some help to you.I found it uncovered alot for me.

Check with the book "Marco Polo" on this, he spent most of his adult traveling this "road" and writing about it in his diary, then later transcribing it to his book.
