Well, my favorite (Piccolo) isn't on the list, but if he had been, I would have chosen him. Akira Toriyama & I have at least that one thing in common: Piccolo is our favorite. However, out of the list you have, if I had to choose one, I would go with Goku, because it would just seem odd to me if a Dragonball storyline didn't begin with a look at where Goku is at the moment. I also like several of the other characters, & if you were to try something like a "What If...?" scenario, I might even recommend starting with a character not on the list, exploring what would have happened to the character under different circumstances, such as the differences between the lives of Future Trunks & Trunks. For example:
What if Bra had been trained to fight by Vegeta?
What if Yamcha had married Bulma?
What if Bulma & Chi-Chi did the fusion dance?
What if Yajirobe ate Omega Shenron?
Okay, that last one was just silly, but you get my point. Anyway, hope you're able to find the inspiration you need. Good luck.

Vegeta and Trunks!!!! It'll be cool if you could portray both of them. They're so much alike. Did you notice that their faces are pretty much the same when they turn Super Saiyan? It'll be cool if you could do a half and half face of Trunks and Vegeta. Kakui!!!! Ganbatte ne! ^_^
