I'm looking for a dry, four season climate, lots of trees and rivers, friendly people, low cost of living, median age of around 50 where the men clearly outnumber the women (*s*) in which to live.

Consider the areas close to Branson, Missouri?

Beautiful area in the Ozark Mountains. Numerous streams. Nice lake close. Good entertainment. . Close to a larger city. Springfield Missouri.

Friendly people and you have your four seasons.

I, too, was going to suggest something in the southwestern portion of Virginia - Roanoke or Lynchburg areas. Both have lots of trees (including Jefferson National Forest and Shenandoah National Park), the Blue Ridge Mountains with Skyline Drive and the Appalachian Trail. Lots of rivers, too - James River, Roanoke River, New River to name a few. Short driving distance to the beach or to DC if you want to take a quick weekend trip. Average age is early 40's, though, and the men do not clearly outnumber the women. I think the only place where you'll find the men clearly outnumbering the women would be Alaska (but you lose your 4 seasons).

Wise County, Virginia. Actually, that whole area in the southwest tip of Virginia has a low cost of living, is in the mountains, and has a speckling of Wal-Marts.

Of course, there is not much in the way of jobs.
