Mark Twain said "whatever fool said it is better to loved and lost never really knew love at all," and I agree with him.

I consider myself to be sort of a hopeless romantic. Oh, how I wish I could answer yes, saying things like "the touch of another's soul on your own is better than to be alone." However, the truth of the matter is, that it is impossible to say either way. It's like looking at the past from the view of today. If something in history had never happened, you can say that it would be a bad or good thing because the effects of having or not having that event occuring would be unknown.
It matters not what joy love is when discovered and what devastation it wroughts when it is lost if you have never experianced it. I can't say that one flavor of ice cream is better than another if I have not tried that icre cream, simply because I don't know. However, if I lost my favorite flavor (which I have unfortunately), I will feel sorrow, but I will not wish I had never let the icy sweetness of Pink Bubble Gum ice cream touch my tongue because I had loved it and would never wish such a horrible thing.

funny u asked this question; u should see the one i asked a few minutes ago (lol).

to answer u'rs: i think it IS better to have loved an lost, than to have never loved at all

because at least u'r soul has felt the touch of another, u'r heart has known selflessness and u have become a better person in that u have experienced the embrace of life changing sentiments

u've grown, u've matured, u've learned to put u'r own desires aside for the sake of another person's happiness...although short lived, at least u have felt it...where as a person who has never been in love...

can only live their lives wondering how it feels, what it's like...and never truly knowing the beauty of loving someone (sometimes) deeper than u'rself...never growing, maturing, learning, sacrificing...never having anything planted in their hearts and feeling it grow............it's a desolate and lonely feeling, best never felt

I'll be honest, it's very hard for me to say yes right away...but knowing myself, I don't like to regret, would rather experience love and the pain of losing it, then live an entire life without having experienced that sort of connection with someone else or others.

I have no regrets. I have tried and failed more than once, but have wonderful memories to warm me. I would not trade the love I have given or been given for not feeling the pain of loss. It was all well worth it. Because I felt incredibly fulfilled and have made others feel all of themselves.
And given the chance, I will try again!

Certainly better to have loved and lost rather than never to have loved at all. if you do not know what is darkness at all, you will never knwo the worth of sunlight.

Depends on the relationship. I've had some good ones that I'll remember until I'm gone. And I've had a couple of bad ones that make me feel good every time I think of the time they ended.

So I'd say yes because you always have the memories.

Yes, I believe so. Even when love ends badly and it hurts you so bad that you wish you were dead, it makes you feel alive. And the next time you feel happiness, you would appreciate it more.

It depends. If the other person only pretended to love you in order to use you in some way, then no, I say.

no because losing a love hurts like crap. better to not love at all so you won't have to feel the pain of losing it.
