My grandfather, at about eight years of age, stood up during his future wife's piano recital and declared to the entire room that he was going to marry Betty Hall, which he eventually did. She still loves telling that one.

That would be a good study for statisticians.
I am married to someone other than my childhood sweetheart. If I may make a guess Annabelle, your spouse is also NOT your childhood sweetheart.
A quick think about my siblings' love stories, no one also married their childhood sweethearts.
Maybe this happens at an extremely low statistical rate. various reasons, including one partner migrating to another place, or the other maturing faster or earlier.
And also, one of them probably found a better partner at some point.
It would of course be so romantic to hear of childhood sweethearts walking to the altar. That is why these stories end up being movie themes.

depending on a case to case basis. Eventually, through their later years, if they still love each other, and if they aren't married yet to different spouses, highly likely they will get married.
There are other malleable reasons. My childhood sweetheart in Manila is still single at 40, i have also become single after my divorce but i am here and he's there-rest assured if i was in mla, chances are- we would materialize our former relationship into something deeper-marriage e.g.- i still think i was the reason why he became single for so long but life goes on, sometimes we don't look back to the past, instead we look at ourselves in dfferent perspective the underlying reasons why we chose with our free-will not to marry each other through the earlier years.

This depends how young. Usually childhood sweethearts become best of friends. They do not marry, maybe because they have too much in common but they are life long friends.

Rarely...those days of being sequestered in a little town where everyone attended the same one-roomed schoolhouse are over. These days even people born in rural places travel by airplane and know a second language; or, they live vicariously through the Internet and marry someone they met on Yahoo!!!

Nah, not in my case. He is now much more beautiful than me. The boy has turned into a woman - the late blooming variety.
