Are you liable if a chef in your restaurant was being careless and accidentally put something in the food, and the customer got sick?

Yes, as the owner you are liable for everything that happens within your resteraunt. That is why most sole proprietors have alot of insurance, just in case someone falls, or gets sick. What you can do is make the customer happy offer them free meals so return and apologize over and over. Just so they dont sue. And if they talk about sueing dont say anything about who is to blame, dont even say you are to blame. then consult a lawyer.

Yes, your liability coverage for the business will cover the first amounts to your coverage limit then you pay the rest even if it is everything you own or will ever own. The chef may be sued also.
