Such as intelligence granted to us as a whole. With it we are able to create medicine to treat illness but at the same time we start wars that kill millions. (E.G. World War I and II) Beauty, people my be envious and try to hurt you. Other examples are welcomed. Do you think every gift is a hidden curse?

I read an a Taoist Anecdote in school once that describes how I feel exactly.

THE LOST HORSE

A man who lived on the northern frontier of China was skilled in interpreting events. One day, for no reason, his horse ran away to the nomads across the border. Everyone tried to console him, but his father said, "What makes you so sure this isn't a blessing?" Some months later, his horse returned, bringing a splendid nomad stallion. Everyone congratulated him, but his father said, "What makes you so sure this isn't a disaster?" Their household was richer by a fine horse, which the son loved to ride. One day, he fel and broke his hip. Everyone tried to console him, but his father said. "What makes you so sure this isn't a blessing?"
A year later, the nomads came in force across the border, and every ablebodied man took his bow and went into battle. The Chinese frontiersmen lost nine of every ten men. Only because the son was lame did the father and son survive to take care of each other. Truly, blessing turnes to disaster, and disaster to blessing: the changes have no end, nor can the mystery be fathomed.

So you see, blessings (or gifts), however great, become curses in time in the most ridiculous and profound ways, just as curses become blessing. There can be no seperation between them except for definition.

Totally disagree. A gift is a gift. You can look at a gift as a curse and find bad in good, like the glass half empty or full. It is a choice which point of view you prefer. You can also look at a curse as a gift or blessing as it is what you take with you from the experience, hopefully becoming a stronger better person for it.

For the most part, yes, I agree that some gifts can be a curse.

Girls who are born brilliant often have the tendency to "dumb down" in their teenage years or sooner, as the need for social acceptance ( where dumb wins the cute guys all the time) exert pressure on them.

However, in the right environment and the right teachers, their gifts can be turned to something else.

You just have to find the right intervention from the right people at the right time.

We can sit around and play the antonym game - you can think of a gift and I can think of some bad counter argument. But in reality do all people who receive gifts really have the bad side effect? I think not, we instead are just contriving a destructive end to the idea of what a gift represents.

Pandora's box is open and if don't like your computer and fast food, go out into a wilderness and see how much of a curse we have. I think we have too many gifts and should be grateful every moment we breathe the air.

It depends in which society you live in and varies greatly .Such gifts could be a curse in western civilazation but could be just the opposite in an oriental civilization, etc etc.

I disagree! Would you rather be a rooting boar or a human being? I welcome intelligence and am aware of it's pitfalls. For every good we invent, there can be a negative. For every kiss, a possble slap. I will reach for the positive and learn as best I can from each and every outcome of both positive and negative. And work to keep the positive in the forefront.

I disagree. There are no gifts in life. Everything has a price we must pay, and it may not be at the beginning. It is when you do not expect to pay, when you see those assets as gifts, that you see the price as a causeless liability (i.e. a curse).

One can form perspectives neagtively and positively of every thing.
when you view negatively, every gift could become a curse iin some different plain, but if you see things positively, then there shall be nothing of that sort.
