My current configuration is 1280x1024. If I set it to 1024x768, will it increase the games performance?

It should increase the FPS of the game if you change the resolution that the games runs at. Often they have a separate configuration and do not run at the desktop resolution.

You can also increase the FPS by degrading the picture quality in other ways. Getting rid of some of the effects that put load on the video chip, but make the image more realistic.

One caveat though, if you have a FPS rate that is higher than your refresh rate, then you will never notice it. You need to tweak the settings so that you get a minimum FPS rate about the same as your refresh rate - maximum detail for a smooth image.

The screen resolution is automatically changed when you start a game. You can lower the resolution in the settings of the game without changing the resolution you use for your operating system.

If you want to improve your game performance, buy a faster processor, more memory, and a better graphics card.

Yes.. The higher the resolution, the better the quality of the models/graphics, and maybe the more memory it requires..

Yes, higher resolution means higher load on machine. Decrease resolution to increase speed if you notice it affecting you negatively.

Another thing you can do to improve performance is to go to display properties and disable the second monitor (or TV out).
