90% of my husband's income comes from viruses and malware contaminations. He suggests using Firefox instead of Internet Exploder (exploder he calls it) and FREE for home use...
-Avast.com
(Found on download.com)
-Spybot search and destroy (by safer networking - there are a few fakers on the site, so make sure it's by safer networking).
-Crap cleaner - takes off the residue of spyware and viruses.
Websites such as Geocity, Tripod, Myspace, and other social sites have compromised pages that will infect your PC, so avoid them at all possible.
*A side note if anyone in the house does it...
A "safe" adult site is richards.realm.c o m
To "browse" the sites the husband suggests downloading a (FREE) linux live CD (like knopix) and run it WITH A ROUTER...
*Not advocating the adult sites, but the husband has had to deal with individuals repeatedly infecting machines with nasty infections. He winds up teaching a lot newbies how to surf safe.

What kind of security have you got? The popups are trying to stampede you, it is probably not that bad, but it is greatly annoying. The previous poster lists several reputable antispyware software. I recommend both ad-aware and spybot.
For best results, boot into safe mode and remove restore points before scan.
