"this program has perfomed an illegal operation and must shutdown". It will not load anything at all. (no icons, only the background on my screen) When i click on details it gives me the following message..."EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module EXPLORER.EXE at 0167:00401f31.
REGISTERS: (and then lists a bunch of code).....how can i load it again. I have the restore CD but it will not allow it to load...

The restore CD is meant to be booted. Check your bios to make sure the CD is in the boot order ahead of the hard drive.
If you are having disk failure, it may not be able to find a hard drive.

Have you tried F8 on boot up, try going in on safe, maybe it will allow you to go to restore if not the first answer is a good one
