What do you think of spanking today?

2007-10-01 17:50:06 · 23 answers · asked by staymay 7 in Entertainment & Music Polls & Surveys

My mother was the one that dealt out the dicipline (ie beat downs)
My Father would give speeches
(ie push over)
I always defied her and never ever disobeyed my Dad. I have always been closer to my Mother. I love her very much.

I know I know wrong category but those other categories take things too seriously.

yes ma'am they did. and i will spank mine when they are old enough.
spare the rod, spoil the child...lol....so true so true!
ok but i wasn't spanked like buddie above me. my parents loved me they didn't beat me. after i was spanked i had to stay in my room for a while and after a few minutes which ever of my parents had spanked me would ALWAYS come back into the room and talk to me and reassured their love for me and that they just wanted what was best for me and spanking was how to show right and wrong. they didn't spank me out of anger which is a biggggg difference. if you spank out of anger then that's abuse. if you spank in order to teach them something to their benefit that's discipline.

I believe the world would be a much better place if kids got their butts spanked for misbehaving. NOTE: i did not say beat them though. In my eyes, a spanking is a disciplinary tool. It is NEVER ok to unnecessarily hit a child. I also believe they should be warned before getting spanked. If they have been told what to do or what not to do and they deliberately disobey, then they need their rear ends spanked. Yes, I got spanked several times when I was little. I am thankful for those spankings today, because who knows what kind of person I would have been without them. All children need to learn to obey their parents or an authority figure. They also need to learn that there are consequences for their actions. The outcome totally depends on their behavior.

I am sure they did. I was a pretty good kid growing up and really don't remember any spankings, but I knew my mother would if needed. I think spankings are a necessity of childhood, spankings now, not beatings. My son is 11 years old and as long as he thinks his principal can spank him, I have no problems out of him at school. Just the fear of a spanking deters my son from a lot of mischief.

Yes, I got spanked. I respect my father very much because not only did he demand and teach it, he deserved it. I think I should have gotten more. I LOVE my parents for caring enough to discipline me and not letting me run the streets.I did little silly kid things, but never anything serious. I spank my children when it is necessary. My children are well behaved and they do not "HATE" me as someone else said. That is bull ****.

I think I got spanked up until a certain age because I would laugh when they'd do it. So it got upgraded to the pinch under the arm. ha ha. I think children need to be spanked, not beaten, but spanked. Taking away things and sending them to their rooms can only do so much.

My parents did spank me and I thank them for it. They didn't need to beat me or scream and swear at me, but a swift hard spank when I had done something bad kept me in line. I think that when people today here spank they automatically go to "abuse". It is so sad that people can't discipline their own children today without being threatened to be turned into the police or have their kids taken away. Yes, there are people who abuse their children and they should be in jail. But I believe that too many people are afraid to discipline their kids in ANY way and that is why there are so many problems with kids not listening to their elders and talking back.

My mother spanked me with a wooden paddle. She should've drilled holes in it because it didn't work for me.

I don't see anything wrong with spanking, as long as it doesn't go too far. Schools still allow spanking with parent's permission. Parents just need to find the most effective form of discipline - like I said, spanking didn't do squat for me...

My parents did spank me as a child and I turned out just fine, I'm not traumatized or anything !!

My Daughter does get spankings if she needs it. We don't spank her often, but she knows if she misbehaves she will get a spanking.

try alchoholic blind rage fist fights against a 8 yr old for 3 + years.
so surviving that i dont think i ever got spanked...but im against violence, and if i ever have kids, i will never land a hand on them, because i dont see any teachings in beatings. nor do i in grounding. there are other methods

p.s. if a child ever raises a hand on his/her parents without a fair reason, that is when you go to physical violence, and i dont think it will be just spankin when that happens

Nope they believed as I do that spanking a child is a barbaric way to treat a child. For two reasons if you hit a child how can you tell him/her that they can't hit???? You're lying to them if you the person that they look up to the most ( and you want them to look up to you don't you ?) hit them but tell them that they can't hit don't you think that they'll figure out that you have a double standard??? And two if the people who love them the most hurt them than what will they learn to expect from the rest of the world. Oh and I thought of a third reason.
I think that people who resort to hitting their children can't be bothered to figure out something that takes some time to do instead of reacting by lashing out have a problem themselves. There have been studies that prove that most of the people who hit their children are the ones with the lest education ( wonder why?).
