It doesn't give the anwser you were looking for. Or it didn't solve you problem but it made you laugh? Sometimes I find it difficult to choose a best answer if someones written something irrelevant yet really funny!

I tend to ask off-beat questions and reward witty answers (they are often quite creative) but I have asked a few semi serious ones and rewarded what I considered the "best" answer (the one that would work for me). This IS a rather subjective forum at best. If I go voting I use the same criteria. Sometimes I lose out for best answer to the funny people (an annoying fact of life). Sometimes I am the funny person. ;-). ps. I mind losing less to a funny person than I mind losing to some sod who pasted their whole (LONG) answer from wikapedia or some such.

When voting on someone else's question, I give the best answer to the person who gives a similar answer to what I would have given, if no one does that, I look for the funniest answer, if none are funny, I sometimes hit no best answer.

If it is my question, of course I look for the person who asks it the best. If no one answers correctly, then I pick one that is at least informative. As a last resort, I just pick the first answer to get my 5 points back.

With wit, even the most horrible answers can be great. In fact, laughter helps us pull through with the solution to most of our problems so it's great to reward someone who makes you laugh! :) It's amazing how many creative answers people have and at times humor is just woven in with the solution. It's as simple as that!!

Nope, I find it hard to choose too! I just don't want to pick. But there are questions I want to choose as the Best Answer but didn't get the chance to do so, too late I mean.

If it's a truly funny answer, then yes I have. If it's just stupid and doesn't pertain to anything I said, I usually pick No Best Answer.

yes all the time. if you don't find an answer to suit then vote no best answer then it wont be hanging around in limbo for months on end, I found some tiebreakers today from over a year ago.
