Ok I am looking at two laptops. The Dell Inspiron 1520 and the 1420. I am really putting a lot into them so it could handle my media, multi-tasking, and 3D modelling software and stuff like Photoshop. Also I know Vista is demanding so I want to be able to handle that as well.
I am getting 3GB of RAM, and a 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo processor.
The 1420 allows you to upgrade to 128MB Graphics card. But the 1520 allows for 256MB. I went to best buy to sort of get a feel for laptops because I've never had one, and saw that I like the smaller ones a lot better. Obviously the performance counts more then looks, so does the Graphics card make a big enough difference that I would want to get the bigger one?

I just saw the Vostro 1500 is exactly like the Inspiro 1520, but it offers XP and is all black. Those are two plus's for me, seeing as I've heard Vista will slow me down.

With your 3D requirement, better get the 1520 with the Geforce 8600M GT. It is definitely better with its 32 stream processors compared to the 8400M GS' 16 stream processors.

if you're gonna be rendering and doing graphics id get the best you can. im not sure with vista if it takes that 3rd gig of ram or the 4th. i got 4gbs ram and you only get 3. just remember one way to speed up vista is by putting a usb drive with nothin on it and vista will ask when you put it in if you want to use it to speed up your pc. keep one usb drive free with as many gbs as u have ram. just keep it in the drive for speed. but check and see if you get the 3 gbs because with vista either the 3rd or the 4th you lose. i swear, it sounds crazy but its true
