i tried to look around in the mall and some of the laptop brands that they ussually offer are NEO, ACER, ASUS, and MSI.

NEO, ACER and MSI are the much cheaper price but i don't know how they perform compared to ASUS.

Sony VAIO and HP are also popular but they are very expensive.

and becasue of this i am confused which laptop brand is really good in terms of performance and quality.

by the way, this is my first time to get laptop and any good advice from you will really be great. and thanks in advance.

...research...
...i've been doing that for a month now...
...i came up with a Lenovo (IBM) Thinkpad T61...
..they're simply the best as their various international awards would tell...only that they're also very expensive...
...I suggest you find your ideal laptop in terms of features..prioritize the features then cut down some of it to match your budget...
...I got a guide to choosing a laptop last month..unfortunately i can no longer find the site to share it with you..but i do have a hard copy..
here's some:
Processor: Cetrino Pentium M or Core Duo- faster(fastest), less power consumption, longer battery life, less heat, but definitely expensive
Celeron - fast enough, consumes more power, less expensive, shorter battery life
AMD- less expensive, slower

Memory - 40Gb - standard; choose between 60-120Gb
RAM - i suggest a 512Mb or 1Gb

Connectivity: WiFi, Bluetooth

Spindles: CD, DVD ; a DVD writer would be great if budget allows you to have one

Fire wire and Usb ports- should have the newer Usb 2.0 port

Size: 14"...ideal size..the larger ones are usually faster and better but heavier

Price: depends on your budget.

Brand: Lenovo, Hp.......but since we're here in the philippines, (Lenovo and Hp are very expensive here)..try researching the brands and models..NEVER COME TO THE SHOP/STORE UNARMED WITH INFO..you know what i mean? they're very tricky out there...

lastly never buy it the day you saw it even though it looks simply irresistible...take a goodnight sleep and buy it the next day...you'll be thinking much clearer when you're not in the mall where everything looks enticing...

Right now i'm still researching on NEO, Asus and Acer...

Hope you find what you need.
Take care and God bless!

Consider ASUS. ASUS makes top quality motherboards. HP uses ASUS motherboards. This one should be great for all around use:

For casual users, the cheaper A9RP is also good.

All are the same. Just look for the specifications on the laptop that you need then compare one laptop with another.

The warranty and the price are the items that you want to look at.
