That's painting with an awfully large brush! For the most part the answer is no, but politicians get hammered day in and day out be lobbyists for special interest groups, and power often is corrupting. Politicians promises are intentions, not promises. Pleasing everyone isn't possible.
Private campaign donors and corporate interests do have an inordinate amount of influence, because to be elected to an office a pol has to raise alot of money - and big business has plenty of cash to spend to get their own sweet way.
A politician has access to inside information that can make them rich - wouldn't it be nice to know where the new freeway exits are going to be built before everyone else?
There are unsavory charactors in any line of work, but politicians live their professional lives in a fish bowl. Unfortunatly, unsavory and shady pols can be that way without being caught committing actual crimes....

Very FEW things in Life are so "black & white"- & that goes for Politicians- too. Some are halfway decent, & others are decidedly "defective". So if you're saying that ALL Politicians are "crooks"- then you're probably Wrong... -Only the Ones currently in the Whitehouse are... :)

In general, no. Any crook smart enough to get elected would not want a job where the opposition party, opposition candidates, interest groups, and the press are watching every move they make and just looking for a chance to catch them doing something wrong.
Some give in to bribes when they think they have learned the ropes and won't get caught, unfortunately.
