I have a modern world history class and I need a very good yet presentable answer that I can expand in an essay.

The unexpected consequence of nuking Japan was their modernization.... we always talk about bombing countries back to the stone age, but with Japan, they got thrust into the 20th century by the bomb (and subsequent rebuilding).

The unexpected consequence of freeing the slaves was a poverty stricken welfare state full of second class citizens. The abolishionists didn't have a plan for what to do with the slaves... kind of like when PETA lets animals loose only to have them hit by cars.

The unexpected consequene of the women's liberation movement was the decline of the traditional family. With birth control, women's "careers", and divorce becoming more acceptable, we went from Leave-it-to-Beaver to Who's-the-Boss in the span of 21 years. Fast forward another 20 years and we've got Desperate-Housewives.

The Treaty Of Versailles led to Germany's depression which created a suitable environment for someone like Hitler to take power. I'd say WWII was a pretty unexpected consequence of the resolution of WWI.
