Can a honda accord still be getting spark if the ingitor in the distributor is bad? I am getting spark, and fuel. It can't be the main power relay if the fuel pump is working, the filter is good, and it is getting spark. Can it be the ignitor, or is the ignitor good if I am getting spark?
Thanks

if you are getting spark at the plug the ignitor and all of the ignition components are working. the ignitor is an electronic switch that takes the place of the old breaker points and it simply makes and breaks the primary circuit of the ignition coil to fire the spark plugs.

if you have fuel and spark your engine may be flooded. Particularly if you've been trying to start it for a while. pull the dipstick and smell the oil for gasoline. if there's gas in the oil you've washed down the cylinder walls and have very little compression in the engine. change the oil and filter.

Honda has a "clear flood" mode that you can use to start the car. Hold the accelerator pedal on the floor as you crank the engine. don't crank the starter for longer than 10 seconds and give it 2 minutes to cool down before cranking again or you'll fry the starter. the clear flood mode changes the fuel and ignition timing to start a flooded car.

also, if you have spark the timing belt is okay because the rotor is turning. I don't know if the distributor timing is correct but you may have jumped time.

hope that helps
